Public Policy and the
Arts
The purpose of this course is to explore the various ways in which public policy, especially at the federal level, has been concerned with the arts. Discussion will cover the history, interests, purposes, rationales, politics, and agencies/programs involved in an arts policy system. In the process, students will also become familiar with basic policy documents in this area as well as changes that have occurred over time.

Organizational Leadership in the Nonprofit Arts
Students will be assisted in enhancing their knowledge and abillity to take responsible leadership roles in non-profit arts organizations and as a major constituent of public arts agencies.

Managing Cultural Policy Change
Planning and executing strategic change in public arts agencies. Explores implications of shifting from a supply/demand to a value-based cultural policy paradigm.

Issues across the Arts
A visiting lecturer series facilitates the in-depth exploration and analysis of a quarterly selection of related arts policy, programming, and funding issues. In
alternating years this course will highlight the subject of the Barnett
Arts and Public Policy Symposium.

problems, including historical, philosophical, ethnographic, survey, experimental,
and case study methods.

agency/organization. Depending on the organization's needs, assignments
may include grantwriting, fundraising, exhibition design, etc.
