COSAA - National Arts Advocacy Day in Washington D.C.In March, a group of twelve Ohio State students traveled to Washington D.C. for the 2007 National Arts Advocacy Day. National Arts Advocacy Day, organized by the Americans for the Arts, is the only national event determined to bring together our Nation’s cultural organizations, civic leaders and grassroots advocates from across the country. The event lasts two days and is packed with lectures, guest speakers, legislative training, and outstanding performances that educate attendees on the current state of public policy and funding for the arts. This event concludes with participants’ visits to Capitol Hill for meetings with Congress members to discuss and explain these pertinent issues and encourage their support for our cultural institutions and programs. Through the OSU student organization, Central Ohio Student Advocates for the Arts (COSAA), OSU has participated in National Arts Advocacy Day for the past several years and we have proudly gained a reputation for being powerful, professional and effective art advocates. This year’s event continued to strengthen that reputation. With education, passion and determination, our voices were heard and the state of the arts progressed.
