Holly Longfellow

Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, I enjoyed growing up on the East coast with the ocean close by and an environment full of historic sites, museums, galleries, and live performances. My family included a menagerie of all kinds of pets, a twin sister, Alison, and an older brother, David. My interest in the arts was cultivated at an early age as I fell in love with dance, performing in both community and theatre productions through high school and then attended OSU to complete a B.F.A. in Dance. As a student I performed with the Baroque Dance Ensemble on tours to Harvard, the Smithsonian, and Berkeley and with the University Dance Company. I continued to perform after graduation with the Metropolitan Modern Dance Company, Dancers Plus, Ballet Met, and the Stuart Pimsler Dance Company.

My work at OSU began in the Department of Photography and Cinema where my lifelong interest in film and video grew and I performed in student projects. This led to my pursuit of an M.A in Photography and Cinema, allowing me to merge my dance documentation work with filmic editing techniques. In 1991 as my department was closed down, I transferred to begin working for the Department of Art Education.

I still perform occasionally on campus in Sullivant Hall where I study modern dance, yoga and Pilates. I am an active volunteer with several CAPA theatres downtown, the Drexel Theatres, and the Wexner Center. I also serve as a board member of the Department of Photography and Cinema Alumni Society and as a judge for the Columbus International Film and Video Festival student competition annually. Any free time remaining I spend working on projects inside and outside my first home in Clintonville and my gardens are a work in progress!
