Admission to the APA Program
Incomplete applications will not be considered. It is the applicant's responsibility to send all materials before the deadline. Admission of graduate students to the university is a shared responsibility
of the departmental Graduate Studies Committee and the Graduate School.
Applicants must fulfill admission requirements and procedures of both.
Graduate study in the Ohio State University's Arts Policy and Administration program is individually designed. Each graduate study program is structured by the student
in consultation with a faculty advisor.
Prerequisites for Coursework in Arts Policy and Administration:
- An undergraduate course in American government is a prerequisite to enroll in
Public Policy and Management (PPM) 801: Policy Formulation and Administration.
The prerequisite course serves as an introduction to American political institutions
and processes which create public policy. At OSU, Political Science 101 or 300
or History 152 would satisfy this prerequisite.
- An undergraduate course in microeconomics is a prerequisite to enroll in PPM 830:
Economics of Public Policy and Management. The prerequisite course serves as an introduction
to microeconomics principles including concepts of supply and demand, consumer
choice, production and costs, and market structure. At OSU, Economics 200 would
satisfy this prerequisite.
- Statistics or quantitative research methods in social sciences. At OSU, Statistics 135 or 145 would satisfy this prerequisite.
Students who are accepted into the APA program and have not completed such coursework prior to
enrolling for graduate classes will be accepted conditionally into the program. Completion of all prerequisites with a grade of C or above is required prior to fall enrollment or within the student's first year.
