Applicants must fulfill admission requirements and procedures of both.
Because of the unique design of the program, students must begin in the summer. We are not able to accept applications for autumn, winter, or spring quarters.

Departmental admission policies and criteria are designed to identify students who are intellectually able and who have interests consistent with the Department's programs. We welcome any evidence relevant to these criteria. The minimum evidence required is indicated below.
Intellectual Ability. The department defines intellectual ability in terms of the ability to deal with ideas of a general kind as they apply to art and education. Our programs stress analytical, critical, speculative and theoretical approaches to art education, requiring the ability to communicate clearly.
Evidence relative to this criterion includes grade point average in college, MAT or GRE scores, letters of recommendation, and essays and articles written by the applicant. A portfolio of curriculum materials or studio work may be provided as evidence of intellectual ability when accompanied by a written interpretive commentary.
Interests Appropriate to the Programs. Our graduate faculty and programs accommodate a wide scope of interests in art education. The Department admits eligible graduate applicants whose interests are consistent with the expertise of its faculty. For a list of faculty and their areas of specialization, see Graduate Faculty.
Evidence relevant to interests include: a resume of the applicant's educational background and professional experience; a statement of intent indicating the applicant's intellectual curiosities, anticipated direction during graduate study, and long-range career objectives. Letters of recommendation may also address this criterion.
Diversity of Background. Art and education are multi-faceted phenomena that can be approached from diverse points of view. We strive for a cultural and experiential diversity in our student population that enriches the department's programs. This criterion applies to diversity of intellectual, artistic, practical and cultural background. Practical experience in schools and other community agencies is particularly welcomed.
We regard diversity of culture as educationally desirable in our programs. The relation between art and culture is one of the themes of our graduate programs. Therefore, we seek to admit qualified students from North American minority backgrounds and from countries around the world. It should be noted, however, that a high degree of proficiency in written and spoken English is essential to success in the program.
Domestic - April 15
International - April 15
Admission to the Mostly Online Master's Degree Program is restricted to Summer quarter. Departmental application deadlines are intentionally set earlier than Graduate Admissions and Graduate School deadlines that you may find elsewhere.
